How to Make Free Calls on your iPhone with Google Voice and Fring

Free VoIP calls on iPhone can be made if you are having a Google Voice Account, an account at Gizmo.com and a free Fring app for iPhone. Fring is a free app providing access to multiple online chat clients like AIM, ICQ, Google Voice, SIP VoIP, etc. on your iPhone. Gizmo is a VoIP provider that offers free calls out up to three minutes. You can make free outgoing calls to (up to 3 minutes) and receive unlimited incoming calls through Google Voice.

Step -01 – Sign Up for Gizmo

Once you signed up for Gizmo, login to your account and turn Google Voice on. Add your Google Voice account number. Note down your Gizmo number (SIP Number), available in the Account Overview section.

Step -02 – Set up Google Voice

Navigate to your Google Voice settings and click on the phones tab. At the bottom of the tab is an add another phone link. Click it and select Gizmo as the phone type from the drop down menu. Add Gizmo number (refer step-01).

Step -03 – Set Up Fring

Open up your Fring application and click on the SIP selection in the Add-ons menu. Select Gizmo option to login to your account. Enter your Gizmo credentials and you can now make calls with Google Voice on your iPhone.

Make sure that you are connected to a WiFi network to make outgoing calls. The outgoing calls are limited to 3 minutes, but you can receive unlimited incoming calls and talk for as long as you want. The incoming caller just needs to dial your Google Voice number and you need to disable Google Voice from forwarding your calls to your iPhone phone number.

How to Send SMS or text message for free using iPhone

Sending SMS has become a necessity and 50% of my mobile bill comes through SMS, but now you can easily send free SMS or Text messages to your friends for free. Follow the steps below to send free SMS via iPhone.

Step 1: Download AIM chat client for your iPhone – Visit the Apple App Store and download the free AIM client for the iPhone [Download Link].

Step 2: Add your friend’s phone to your buddy list – Open your desktop AIM client (iChat or Pidgin or any other of your choice) and add your friend as a new contact to which you want to send the text message for free. Here is the trick, make sure you enter their phone number using the format below:

+1[area code][7-digit phone number]. For Example- +12022765000

Your friend’s mobile contact information should now appear in your buddy list.

Note –

1. Do not enter your friend’s AOL name/ID.

2. Do not put any white space or hyphens between the phone number.

Step3: Sending Free SMS – Launch AIM in you iPhone, Tap the buddy name, compose a text message (140 characters), and tap Send.

When your friend receives your sms message and reply to your message, the return message will appear in AIM. Your friend might have to pay for receiving and replying to the sms or test messages as per plans. But if your friend also sign up for an AIM account and download AOL’s free chat app, then both can send and receive text messages or SMS for free on iPhone.
